Adding Variables to an Existing Layout

Variables get their values in the following ways:

  • Entered as the current value  
  • Read from a screen  
  • Read from a recordset  
  • Set or calculated in a process step  
  • Entered by the user during execution  

You can create new variables or insert existing variables to layouts. Also, you can add existing variables from the following:

  • Processes
  • Processes and child processes
  • Objects

To add variables to an existing layout:

  1. In the Navigation pane, click Data.

The Data window opens.

  1. In the Layouts Summary pane, double-click on a layout.

The Edit Layout dialog opens.

  1. In the Variables field, right-click in the field and select Add or Insert.

    The Insert option inserts the variable above the selected row or line.

    The Select Variable dialog opens.

  1. In the Navigation pane, select the folder that contains the variable you want to add.

    Once the folder is selected, all available variables are shown in the Variables Summary pane.

  1. In the Variables Summary pane, select a variable.
  2.     Note: If needed, you can create a new variable in the Select Variable dialog. For information about creating variables, see Creating Variables.
  1. Click OK.

The variable is added to the layout.
