Resolving Changes After Importing an Application Map

After determining the application version you are updating in Certify, the next step is to import the new application map and compare it to the previous version to detect changes. Certify recognizes additions, deletions, and modifications in maps, along with any associated processes and steps affected. The Resolve dialog automatically appears after successfully importing an application map, even if it is your first imported map.

Resolving changes to a map means comparing each newly imported object with an object previously imported. You need to determine if the objects are the same, have been modified, or have been deleted. Any changes can be cross-referenced to all affected processes in Certify. For example, suppose a field or object is modified in a later version. In that case, Certify performs impact analysis, identifies all processes that refer to that field or object and modifies all steps affected by the changes. The test can be used without rebuilding it for the new application version.

To resolve changes to a first time import of an application map:

This procedure assumes that you have imported your maps. For more information, see Importing Application Maps.

  1. In the Resolve dialog, select a view from the View Controls drop-down list:
  2. Tree
  3. Table - The Table view provides more details for the objects.

  4. If any object requires a name change, select the object. If you do not need to change any names, go to Step 5.
  5. In the New Object section, enter a name into the field.
  6. If needed, continue to rename objects.
  7. Click OK.

The Resolve box closes and your maps are imported.

To resolve changes in an application map for a second import of the same window:

The previously imported objects appear in the Old Object section, and the recently updated objects appear in the New Object section.

  1. In the Resolve dialog, select a view from the View Controls drop-down list:
  2. Tree
  3. Table - The Table view provides more details for the objects.

  4. If an object requires changes, select the object that needs resolution and one of the following options:

    Option

    Description

    Keep

Select this option to keep an object that was marked for deletion or add an object that was previously ignored.

    Delete

Unmatch the imported object or matched object. Select the object you want to undo the match and click Unmatch.

    Keep All

  5. After you have resolved your object change, click OK to save the updated map.
