Installing Worksoft Certify on the Amazon Web Services Cloud
If you plan to use Amazon Web Services (AWS) cloud to host Worksoft Certify, there are supported environment configurations for two types of scenarios.
If you have security requirements that prevents you opening necessary ports from your local network to the AWS cloud, or if you are using a reverse proxy, you will not be able to connect to the Certify license server if the license server is hosted on either the Certify API server or the Certify SQL server. You will need a separate, non-AWS cloud-based Certify license server hosted in your local environment, and it may be difficult with globally dispersed Certify client users.
Supported Configuration for Scenario 1
The first scenario is that the Certify client is installed in house, but the Certify database and Certify API server are installed on the AWS cloud.
With this configuration, you can only connect Certify clients from outside the AWS cloud using Certify Automator's mode. Worksoft does not support using Certify Classic mode to connect to the Certify SQL server from the AWS cloud.
To set up Certify in an AWS cloud:
-
Use Amazon instances that meet Worksoft database system requirements for the Certify SQL server and the Certify application server that is needed for Certify Automator's mode.
Currently, AWS does not support Microsoft SQL Server 2012 R2. You will need to upgrade your SQL server or request a special package from the AWS Marketplace. For more information on supported SQL server versions, see https://aws.amazon.com/sql/.
- Create a new Certify database or restore the Certify Foundations database in the Certify SQL server. If you are moving an existing Certify database, back up your database and restore your existing Certify database on the Certify SQL server in the AWS cloud.
- Install the Certify API server on your web server that has Microsoft® Internet Information Services (IIS) installed.
- Install the Certify License server.
-
Update the Certify client configuration to specify the AWS cloud-based SQL server and the URL address for the Certify API web service.
For more details of the installation steps, please review the Worksoft Certify Installation Guide.
Supported Configuration for Scenario 2
The second scenario is that Certify clients, the Certify database, and the Certify API server are installed on the AWS cloud.
With this configuration, you can connect Certify clients from both inside and outside the AWS cloud, but they must have the same Certify version installed. One configuration scenario is to have Certify clients located outside of the cloud use Automator's mode, and Certify clients in the cloud use Classic mode. Another supported configuration is to use Automator's mode for both Certify clients outside and inside the cloud.
To set up an existing Certify configuration in an AWS cloud:
-
Use Amazon instances that meet Worksoft database system requirements for the Certify SQL server and the Certify application server that is needed for Certify Automator's mode.
Worksoft recommends that you use the Certify API server.
-
Update the Certify client configuration to specify the AWS cloud-based SQL server and the URL address for the Certify API web service.
