Exporting Requirements
You can export requirements to an XML Spreadsheet file that can be easily viewed and modified in Microsoft Excel. The exported file can be modified to add or change existing requirements, and the exported file can then be imported into Certify.
You must have Write permissions to export requirements.
Attributes
Only attributes associated with the selected requirements will be exported. If you export requirements of the same requirement type, only the attributes for that requirement type will be exported. If the export includes requirements of differing requirement types, then the attributes for those two requirement types will be listed and exported.
To export requirements:
- In the Navigation pane, click Requirements.
The Requirements window appears.
- In the Requirements Navigation pane, right-click on a requirement with child requirements and select Export.
The Export Requirements dialog appears.
- In the Save Export As text field, complete of the following tasks:
- Enter the directory and XML file name where you want to save the file and click Export.
- Click the Browse button to browse to the directory where you want to save your XML file. In the File Name field, enter the file name and click Save.
The file is saved in the specified directory.
To specify which requirements to export:
By clicking the Options button in the Export Requirements dialog, you can specify which child requirements to export to an XML Spreadsheet file.
- In the Export Requirements dialog, click the Options button.
The dialog expands.
- If you want to include the selected requirement, select this option.
- If you want to export all child requirements, select this option. Go to Step 6.
If you only want to limit the levels of child requirements, do not select this option.

Example:
0 = No child requirements are exported.
1 = Only the immediate child requirements are exported.
2 = The immediate child requirements and the second lever of child requirements below the immediate subset are exported.
