Getting Started with Certify Layouts and Recordsets

A Certify layout is a collection of variables that define the data in a recordset. A layout must exist before you can create the recordsets that will be used for your processes. A layout can have one or more recordsets associated with it.

Layouts can be created by one of the following methods:

Method

Description

Manually

Manually create a layout by selecting variables from an application version in a project.

From a process and child processes

Select the process that contains the variables you want to add to the layout. Each record or line in the recordset has a value for each variable defined in the selected processes.

From the windows and objects that you imported from your application under test

Select the objects imported from your application map to create variables.

Recordsets

Once a layout is defined, you need to create recordsets and add the data values associated with each recordset. Using recordsets during process execution allows you to use the same process to input or verify different data. For more information about recordsets, see Understanding Recordsets.

Layouts and Recordsets Workflow

For detailed procedures on using Certify layouts and recordset, see the How To section.

Data Window

Layouts are created and managed in the Data window. From the Data window, you are able to do the following tasks:

  • Create layouts
  • Modify existing layouts
  • Add variables to a layout
  • Add recordsets to layouts

The left side of the window is the Navigation pane that is a tree view of the opened project and layout folders. The right side of the window is the Summary pane that displays the layouts for the selected layout folder in the Navigation pane. The bottom portion is a Details pane that displays detailed information specific to the tabs. You can not edit the information in these panes.
